IFOPA-Supported Research Activities Continue to Grow

The IFOPA just closed the call for proposals for our new Preclinical Drug Testing Program. This program is being offered to the FOP research community as a means to lower the costs and barriers of evaluating promising therapeutic agents in mouse models of the disease. There will be two drugs tested starting this Fall. With these two new compounds being tested, it brings the total to three compounds tested in 2020. We are grateful to Drs. Robert Pignolo and Haitao Wang, Mayo Clinic, for administering the program on behalf of the FOP community.

This Fall the IFOPA will be announcing the 4 new drug development research grants being funded through the IFOPA's ACT for FOP Grant Program. They were selected by the ACT for FOP Scientific Advisory Board and approved by the IFOPA's Research Committee and Board of Directors. This will bring the number of FOP research grants funded since 2015 to 22. We are grateful to the generous donors of the IFOPA's In Pursuit of a Cure campaign that helped make this year's funding possible.

We're also pleased to share that FOP mice have been distributed to 6 research laboratories around the world through the IFOPA's Mouse Program. Thanks to generous sponsorship from La Jolla Pharmaceutical Company, the IFOPA owns a conditional ALK2R206H FOP mouse model that can be distributed to academic and corporate labs for unrestricted research use. Learn more.
