A Birthday Wish Comes True

AJ’s Lemonade Stand Raises Over $6,600

When AJ Gonzales turned nine years old, he had a special item on his birthday wish list in addition to fun gifts.

“What I really want is a lemonade stand to raise money for FOP so me and my friends get a medicine to make us feel better," AJ said to his mom, Kristi, who serves as Vice Chair for the IFOPA Board of Directors.

The Gonzales Family made sure AJ got that wish. On October 20, they hosted the "When Life Gives You Lemons, AJ Makes Lemonade" event at the James “Bud” Mullen Community Center in Bellmawr, New Jersey. Family, friends and the local community and media promoted the fundraiser and made it a huge success.

Supporters turned out in large numbers including the local police, fire department, AJ’s old daycare, a hockey team, a Miracle League baseball team, motorcycle clubs, VFW posts, businesses – even the mayor and council members. The town’s football team also came and gave AJ a team jersey.

By selling lemonade and baked goods, and hosting a virtual fundraiser online, the Gonzales Family gave AJ a birthday to remember. With a groundswell of support, they granted his wish and raised more than $6,600 for FOP research and awareness!

Great job, AJ! Thank you for sharing your birthday with the IFOPA!
