As you may have heard, the IFOPA has been invited to participate in the Penn Medicine Orphan Disease Center Million Dollar Bike Ride again this year. In the last 2 years, between the money raised by Team #cureFOP cyclists and matching funds from the Orphan Disease Center, we've been able to award 4 new FOP research grants totaling more than $155,000.
Due to mandates for social distancing, many events have been canceled or postponed. Fortunately, riding a bike is allowed and is a great way for your family to get outside during these days of isolation. Riding virtually on Team #cureFOP from your hometown has always been an option. With COVID-19, the IFOPA has made the decision to shift the IFOPA's participation in the June 13, 2020 event to a fully virtual ride.
We understand and appreciate that everyone has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic whether it's physically, mentally or economically. During these trying times, it is so important to the FOP community that research continues and the momentum in finding a cure is not lost. We cannot do this without your continued generous support!
By participating on Team #cureFOP as a virtual rider, you and your family can ride anywhere you feel most comfortable – your driveway, your neighborhood, a community greenway. It's entirely up to you! Regardless of where or how you ride (bicycle, adaptive bike or wheelchair), you are still raising money to fund new FOP research.
