Parents Bill and Yoki found out their six-year-old daughter, Haley, has FOP in the summer of 2019. Yoki knew right away she wanted to find a way to help the FOP community.
After reaching out to the IFOPA, Yoki decided to launch the first-ever fundraiser and awareness campaign in Hong Kong. She wanted to pursue arts and crafts projects based on their family’s creative interests and dove into making Christmas ornaments. They sold sets of the ornaments and included awareness cards from the IFOPA in each set.
The fundraiser was a huge success and raised a total of nearly $5,700 USD. The Ng family sold 149 sets featuring 594 individual hand-made ornaments. Many people also made donations on top of buying the ornaments.
This first effort has been a moving and inspiring experience for Yoki, Bill and Haley, as well as for family and friends who are asking them to continue raising awareness and money. They’re already working on ideas for their next fundraiser and are grateful to give and receive support.
The IFOPA didn't just provide the Ng family fundraising support, they were able to connect Yoki to other moms – connecting their family to a critical support network.
The IFOPA is always available to lend a hand and share ideas for fundraising and raising awareness. If you or someone you know would like to help the FOP community, please contact Fundraising and Special Projects Manager Cathryn Roys.
