Addgene is a nonprofit plasmid repository whose aim is to help academic researchers share materials and knowledge and thereby accelerate science. Addgene became involved in the fight against Fibrodysplasia Ossificans Progressiva (FOP) through the efforts of superhero and Sanofi/Genzyme researcher, Kurt Swanson who also happens to be the husband of Addgene Senior Director of Biology, Lianna Swanson. Kurt has been blazing past the competition at a variety of races on behalf of FOP sufferer AJ Gonzalez and the National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD) for the past three years. This year, Addgene is proud to join Kurt and AJ’s Avengers Boston League to stand against FOP as we participate in the Cambridge Superhero 5k.
