Tim and Peggy Hoene Want to Make a Difference for the FOP Community
Peggy and Tim Hoene are grandparents to 12-year-old Eli Wallace who has FOP. They felt helpless as they learned about FOP early in Eli’s journey. Then they discovered monthly giving would be an ideal way to offer meaningful support. In honor of Grandparents Day on September 12, the Hoenes share why they give to inspire more people to join the Focus On Possibilities team this month.
“Eli was diagnosed with FOP in 2016. The one thing we could do was love and give emotional support to Eli, his mom Rebecca, dad Kyle and brother Finn. It wasn't long before we were in ‘how can we help’ mode,” they recalled.
“We’re not doctors or scientists, but we learned quickly what would make a difference in Eli's life and all those with FOP – that’s to financially support the people who are working diligently to find a cure. Once we found out we could give through a monthly donation, there was no question we had found our way to help.”
The Hoenes appreciate that monthly donors are some of the first to receive news and updates from the IFOPA. They value knowing about developments and programs which could help their grandson and like that it gives them more of a connection to the FOP community.
“We love to hear about other people’s stories, the great fundraisers families put together and how research is progressing,” they said.
