Liz Wolensky Bikes for FOP Awareness and Her Best Friend
“Evelyn is my best friend, and although we don't really get to bike together, fundraising for FOP was a way of sharing this event with her. Fundraising this way also creates opportunities to talk with other people about FOP.”
Liz Wolensky, best pal of Evelyn who has FOP, is referring to the NYC 5 Boro Bike tour. The largest event of its kind, this biking extravaganza draws 35,000 cyclists who bike on 40 miles of car-free road in New York City.
She recently participated in the ride to raise money for FOP and brought in over $1,600 on her fundraising page.
“For me it was natural to combine an event that I'm super excited about with fundraising for a cause I really cared about,” she says. “I actually had a shirt made up for the event that displayed #cureFOP on the back so that it could be seen well while I was biking.
“Many people stopped and asked me what FOP was. That was the highlight of the ride itself for me.”
Liz was happy to combine her passion for biking and raising FOP awareness in honor of her best friend.
“You know, I love bikes and I love Evelyn. This is an event where I can celebrate both!"
