2023 Family Gathering

Join Us In Dallas, Texas or From Home for the 2023 Family Gathering

We are excited to hold the 2023 FOP Family Gathering on November 16-18 in Dallas, Texas with an option for community members to participate virtually as well. After three years of virtual meetings, we look forward to seeing those families who are able to travel to be with us in person once again. Similar to our previous four in-person Family Gatherings, we have planned to hold this year's event in a new region of the United States to create more opportunities for face-to-face connection, support and education for individuals with FOP who are unable to travel long distances. This is the first time an FOP meeting for families has been held in the Southwest!

Translation Support and Virtual Participation

We look forward to supporting the global mission of the IFOPA by providing professional translation in Spanish and prioritizing travel and lodging support for Spanish-speaking attendees who are in close proximity to Texas, including Mexico and other Central American countries.

In addition to welcoming attendees in Dallas, we are excited to offer a virtual participation option similar to last year's virtual Family Gathering for members of the community who are not able to travel to be with us in-person. We plan to provide professional translation support in Spanish and artificial intelligence translation in 21 languages for all virtual event attendees during general sessions and some community social events.

Family Gathering Schedule of Events:

Thursday, Nov. 14- We are currently exploring opportunities to offer one or more pre-event workshops for siblings and caregivers in the FOP community. These workshop will take place during the day on Thursday. Ask a Doctor and Ask a Dentist meetings will likely take place for Spanish-speaking community members during the day on Thursday.

The Family Gathering will officially begin on Thursday evening with a reception and dinner welcoming families.

Friday, Nov. 15 – We’ll have a full day with presentations in the morning and breakouts in the afternoon. Ask a Doctor and Ask a Dentist meetings will also take place on Friday afternoon and we will enjoy a dinner and interactive opportunities to connect on Friday evening.

Saturday, Nov. 16 – Saturday will be the last day of general sessions in the morning followed by interactive, afternoon workshops.  Ask a Doctor and Ask a Dentist meetings will also take place on Saturday afternoon. It is likely that families will have free time to enjoy nearby, off-site attractions independently or as a group on Saturday evening.

Sunday, Nov. 17 – Sunday will provide additional time for Ask A Doctor and Ask A Dentists meetings for families who live nearby if they were not able to be scheduled during the Family Gathering. Additional activities listed below will be offered until mid-day on Sunday.

Throughout the weekend participants will have the chance to participate in a variety of community activities such as donating to the IFOPA Biobank, visiting the Ability Toolbox center, sharing your FOP Story, shopping at the IFOPA store and having your photo taken by a professional photographer.

Travel and Lodging Stipends:

To assist with your planning, we will be accepting applications for travel and lodging stipends now through February 28 and we will notify applicants before registration opens on May 1st

The travel and lodging stipends provided by the IFOPA are intended to serve as a resource for families whose financial circumstances would otherwise prevent them from being able to attend the Family Gathering. There are two types of stipends available.

Those living with FOP (or their parents if they are under 18) are eligible to apply for one or both stipends.

  • Lodging stipends will cover up to 4 nights of lodging (depending on where you are traveling from) for one room. Of note, rooms with a king bed also have a pull-out sofa sleeper.
  • Total travel stipends will not exceed $750 for a maximum of two people.
