Fourth International
FOP Symposium FAQ

Hugo Fahlberg’s interpretation of the theme, “Together, We Can Move Mountains!” has been selected as the theme picture for the Symposium.
When and where will the Fourth International FOP Symposium be held?

The Symposium will be held at the J.W. Marriott in Orlando, Florida on August 16 - 19, 2007.

How much will it cost you to go to the Symposium in 2007?

IFOPA Registration Fee: The cost to attend the Symposium is approximately $1,300 per person. This per-person cost includes all meals, from Thursday night snacks through Sunday brunch, admission to all workshops, Resource Center, specialized clinics (dentist, orthodontist, etc.), clinics with the FOP research team, entertainment during the symposium, IFOPA gift bag and more.

Each person will have to pay a registration fee to cover a small portion of his or her cost of attendance. The registration fees are as follows:

  • $250.00 per person for the first three attendees per family
  • $350.00 per person for the fourth and fifth attendees per family
  • $550.00 per person for the sixth and higher attendees per family
  • $550.00 per person for off-site attendees (those who choose not to stay at the J.W. Marriott but attend the Symposium)

Why does the registration fee increases if more people in one family attend?

The IFOPA is proud to be able to support each family by paying the larger portion of the cost of each person’s attendance to the Symposium. The fee increases because the IFOPA feels strongly it should support the FOP member plus two additional attendees at the lowest registration fee possible.

What other costs should I be aware of?

Your Hotel Room: The IFOPA was able to secure a hotel room rate of $159.00 per night. We are happy to announce that this hotel room rate is LESS than the hotel cost at the last Symposium seven years ago! A maximum of four people per room are allowed.

Transportation Expenses: All transportation to and from the Symposium is the attendee’s responsibility. If coming to the event via air, please book your flight to the Orlando International Airport. Air travel can be booked on your own or through the IFOPA Program Headquarters. We strongly suggest you purchase travel insurance for all your travel plans.
A shuttle system is available for approximately $20.00 per person from the airport to the hotel. Taxi service is approximately $50.00. More information will be forthcoming on the IFOPA Program Headquarters and handicapped transportation services.

Special Ritz Kids/IFOPA Childcare: The hotel has a wonderful childcare program called Ritz Kids. IFOPA childcare will be provided for Friday through Sunday morning during the Symposium.

Due to special funding, all children with FOP that are two (2) to 12 years old will receive free childcare. A free teen center will be available for those 13 years old and up. Each family will be responsible for the cost of additional children other than the child with FOP.

Half-day and full-day childcare will be available through this special program.

Rates: All pricing, including lunch, gratuity and taxes, are as such:

Full-day rates: $80.00 for first child (without FOP) and $75.00 for each additional child.

Half-day rates: $50.00 for first child (without FOP) and $45.00 for each additional child.

Financial Assistance: Financial assistance is based on family need and is on a first-come-first-served basis. There are limited funds available to provide this type of financial assistance. It is only through the generosity and hard work of families and the IFOPA that we are able to provide such support.

For those that require financial assistance in order to attend, the following registration fee will be available:

$150.00 per person for the first three attendees per family. Applying for financial assistance will be part of the Registration Packets sent out in April 2007.

Special Purchases: We will have a Resource Center filled with tools and ideas for living independently. Select IFOPA gifts and tools will also be available for sale.

Look for your registration packets in the mail in April 2007.
Check the IFOPA web site regularly to learn more
about the Symposium as it develops.
It’s time to save, plan and dream of being together once again!
