Catalog of FOP Resources
Dressing Aids & Adaptive Clothing
FOP stiffness can be anywhere. As such, one's dressing needs are very individual. In general, though, loose clothing with plenty of stretching ability is best, as are tops that have buttons or zippers down either the front or back. Pants with elastic waistbands reduce pressure on the back and can be handled with a dressing stick more easily than others. You can also replace buttons with Velcro, use thigh-high stockings instead of panty hose, and insert elastic shoelaces into your sneakers to turn them into a slip-on shoe (although the latter takes practice). Please also see "Winter Wear" entries and other specific items described in the "Self-Help Aids" section of this catalog.
